Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session

The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.

Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.

The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his team ran a different programme.

Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.

Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before spinning across the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the barrier.

The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.

Hamilton finished practice in P19, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.

The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, over half a second off Piastri's pace.

The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
